Recreation Board

Frystown Park Beautification Day

On June 5th, the Recreation Board Members and a few members of the community held a work day at the Frystown Playground.

While waiting for mulch delivery, the workers picked up sticks and rocks in the playground and basketball court areas. Dale Stump hauled 16 cubic yards of certified playground mulch for the playground equipment area.  Board members (Don Almond, Sherri Glass, Darlene Orendo, Mark Shirk, Rod Keeney, Dale Stump); along with Mrs. Denise Almond, Mrs. Jayne Seifrit, Jim Glass,  Mr. Newswanger and 2 young helpers spread the mulch using wheelbarrows and rakes.  It was a huge task but everyone worked so well together it went smoothly. A bike rack was assembled.  Rodney Keeney pressure-washed all the benches and the floor of the pavilion. He also pressure washed the 2 dugouts in the ball field.

The Board hopes everyone will enjoy using the playground areas. The pavilion can be reserved by calling the Township Building at 717 933-8813.

The Recreation Board is an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission in matters regarding development of all recreational areas within the Township. The Recreational Board reviews all applications for subdivision and land development and gives their recommendations to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors regarding open space issues and recreational areas.

The goal of this committee is to preserve as much open space as possible, in order to provide appealing parks and recreational areas for the residents of the community. The Recreation Board is a five-member Board appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members of this committee serve staggered five (5) year terms.

As most of you know, Bethel Township formed a Recreation Board several years ago to acquire and develop land for recreational use.  The income the Board receives is a fee from land development within the Township, both residential and commercial.
